Soya IT Marine Solutions upgrades satellite communications for 41 vessels
Soya IT Marine Solutions has been awarded the contract to upgrade the communication solutions for 41 ocean-going vessels. The solution includes new satellite communication equipment, efficient data management, continuous service and 24/7 support. The client is Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
The installations are carried out entirely through remote management, making the process both time-efficient and cost-effective. The solution is based on four new connectivity systems that ensure stable connections in all waters and regions. Antennas and hardware are shipped to the vessels in any port, brought onboard and installed by the crew – with no downtime. The delivery also includes support agreements for all vessels. The project started in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

The assignment was preceded by two successful proof-of-concept tests in October 2024, demonstrating a redundant and significantly improved connectivity solution. The high data transmission capacity enables substantially better Wi-Fi for the crew, which in turn improves both the working environment and quality of life onboard. At the same time, the faster connection enables real-time data transfer between ship and shore, as well as more efficient use of sensor data to optimize operations and decision-making.
With this new assignment, Soya IT Marine Solutions now delivers maritime IT services to around 70 vessels, the majority of which have the company’s IT environment onboard.
