In May of 2022, a series of notable revisions were approved to modernize the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
One key amendment is the provision of onboard internet access, or “social connectivity,” reflecting the increasing need for crew members to stay in touch with their families and access essential online services.
Shipowners are encouraged to ensure reliable internet access where feasible. Though not a strict mandate, this guidance set to take effect in December 2024.
